Morimondo owes its name to the French abbey of Morimond to which it is affiliated. It was founded in medieval times by the hand of twelve Cistercian monks coming from Morimond, in Burgundy. Not far from Milan, the charming village is a destination for cycle tourists who travel the many available trails, a green oasis in the heart of one of the most industrialized areas in Italy. Morimondo (Marm\u00f9nd<\/em> in the local dialect) was named Coronate\u00a0until 1871 (from the original place where the town was found, which was further\u00a0north compared to its current location). The territory is located on the left bank of the Ticino, with a\u00a0gentle orography that slopes down to the river sporadically interrupted by hillocks, hollows and embankments. The municipal territory is vast and mainly intended for agricultural use. The vegetation includes, starting from the banks of the river, willows, black locusts and poplars trees, the latters cultivated for the production of paper. There are lots of\u00a0testimonies from the Roman era of colonial settlements in the area of the current village.<\/p>\n
