Emilia is cinema. It is an ever-evolving film set<\/strong>, a heterogeneous film in which to identify with, traveling in the narrative weave between past and future. To discover Emilia is to walk through the landscapes, admire the views, visit the towns and experience the stories made famous by the cameras of Bertolucci<\/strong> and other great directors<\/strong>, to recognize the eternal vicissitudes of Don Camillo and Peppone<\/strong>, to look at the visual insights of Marco Bellocchio, to reread the story of the painter Ligabue in the places of the cinematographic work of art “Volevo Nascondermi”,<\/strong> played by Elio Germano, who returns as the protagonist in the recent film “The Lord of the Ants”<\/strong> shot by Gianni Amelio precisely in the lands and towns of Emilia. Emotions to be found, narratives to be followed, literature by images to be read in the land of the slow mix<\/strong>, the eclectic and surprising Emilia, where every trip is a unique experience between culture, nature and food and wine. As the brand new film “Gli Amigos,” inspired by Parmigiano Reggiano<\/strong>, also demonstrates.<\/p>\n

In the small world of Don Camillo and Peppone<\/h3>\n

The journey of Visit Emilia in the cinematography can start from Brescello (RE),<\/strong> whose streets and squares were the scene of the famous \u201cDon Camillo and Peppone\u201d directed by Mario Camerini in 1972. It is easy to find here the small world described by Giovannino Guareschi<\/strong>, to imagine the parish priest and the mayor, the companions and the faithful. The town hall and the Church of Santa Maria Nascente<\/strong>, which preserves in a chapel the talking crucifix<\/strong>, are still in the central square of the town. On the other hand, many props, such as Peppone’s motorcycle, Don Camillo’s habit and their bicycles, as well as photographs taken during filming, posters and reconstructions of some locations, are in the Peppone and Don Camillo Museum<\/strong>. The locomotive\u00a0that so many times made us enter and leave the village is in the\u00a0park named after Guareschi, while a \u201csubstitute\u201d of the\u00a0tank\u00a0that appears in\u00a0\u201cDon Camillo and the\u2019Hon. Peppone\u201d\u00a0rests peacefully in\u00a0Piazza Mingori<\/strong>, near the\u00a0\u201cMuseo Brescello e Guareschi \u2013 Il Territorio e il cinema\u201d<\/strong>. There are many cinematic curiosities, such as the chapel of the Madonnina del Borghetto and the bell built by Peppone in the episode Don Camillo Monsignore… but not too much, now hanging under the portico of Via Giglioli. A stop at the mayor’s house<\/strong> in Via Carducci is not to be missed, while the railway station is at the end of Viale Venturini.<\/p>\n

Film Don Camillo and Peppone<\/span><\/h6>\n

In the footsteps of Ligabue<\/h3>\n

It is worth a stop in Campegine (RE)<\/strong> where the film \u201cIl Cammino della speranza\u201d<\/strong> by Pietro Germi is set, and in Novellara (RE)<\/strong> which was dreamily reconstructed at Cinecitt\u00e0 by Federico Fellini for \u201cLa voce della luna\u201d;. <\/strong> Not to be missed Correggio<\/a>\u00a0(RE),<\/strong> the place of origin of Luciano<\/strong> Ligabue, who set here his \u201cRadiofreccia\u201d,<\/strong> with scenes also shot in Guastalla and Gualtieri<\/a><\/strong>. The latter is the village of another Ligabue, the painter Antonio Ligabue, played by Elio Germano in the film \u201cVolevo Nascondermi\u201d<\/strong>, shot in the Reggio area, among endless poplar woods and the banks of the Po River. Directed by Giorgio Diritti<\/strong>, the film won at the Berlinale \u2013 Berlin International Film Festival in 2020 and \u00e8 was proclaimed best film at the David di Donatello Awards 2021<\/strong>, with 7 statuettes. In Gualtieri (RE), in addition to the House Museum Antonio Ligabue<\/strong>, you can visit, until November 14, 2021, in the Hall of Giants of Palazzo Bentivoglio, the exhibition \u201cLigabue, the figure found\u201d with an unusual comparison between the genius of Emilia and 11 contemporary artists.<\/p>\n

The Capital of Culture through Bertolucci’s eyes<\/h3>\n

Parma<\/strong>, the Italian Capital of Culture 2020+2021, has been the setting for many films and Bernardo Bertolucci<\/strong> has dedicated several films to his hometown. Like \u201cBefore the Revolution\u201d<\/strong>, set at the Duomo of Parma and in the area\u00a0Villetta<\/strong>\u2013 where Cesare’s house is located in Via Vittime Civili di Guerra \u2013 and then in the interiors of\u00a0Palazzo della Rosa Prati<\/strong>, Fabrizio’s home. The film also immortalizes the Ducal Park<\/strong> and the Pilotta Complex<\/strong>, a location that, along with the Duomo, the director reused for the filming of the The Moon<\/strong>. And how can we not think of Ugo Tognazzi<\/strong> who, in the role of Primo Spaggiari in the film\u00a0 \u201cLa tragedia di un uomo ridicolo\u201d, rides a bicycle through the streets of the city, crossing\u00a0Via Farini<\/strong>, the\u00a0 Caprazucca bridge<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0Piazza Garibaldi<\/strong>\u00a0in the rain and leaving behind\u00a0San Giovanni<\/strong>, where the marriage between Fabrizio and Clelia had been celebrated in\u00a0\u201cPrima della Rivoluzione\u201d.<\/p>\n

Film scenes in Salsomaggiore Terme, Busseto and Torrechiara Castle<\/h3>\n

The castles and historic villages that surround Parma have not escaped the eyes of filmmakers and will not escape the notice of film lovers. Bertolucci again chose Roncole Verdi (PR),<\/strong>a short distance from Maestro Giuseppe Verdi’s Busseto, for a \u201cNovecento\u201d<\/strong> moment set in the agricultural court of Piacenza. Instead, in Salsomaggiore Terme (PR)<\/strong> you can relive some scenes of \u201cThe Last Emperor\u201d <\/strong>set in the elegant Moorish hall of the Palazzo dei Congressi. The city \u00e8 thermal \u00e8 often scenography of cinema, as happened with the film \u201cIl Carabiniere a Cavallo\u201d<\/strong> directed by Carlo Lizzani and \u201cArabella\u201d directed by Mauro Bolognini, and as desired recently<\/strong> by Gianni Amelio, for his new film \u201cIl Signore delle Formiche\u201d, starring Elio Germano, Luigi Lo Cascio and Sara Serraiocco<\/strong>. The film is centered on the life of Aldo Braibanti, a brilliant and heretical intellectual who was put on trial at the end of the 1960s with the specious accusation of having plagiarized a young man, according to the complaint of his conservative family – an accusation behind which was hidden the accusation of homosexuality and which forced him to spend two years in prison – and is also set in Busseto, Roccabianca, Fidenza and Piacenza<\/strong>. Not to be missed are places of history, culture and splendid castles, all of which are worth a visit, such as the romantic and superbly photographed Castle of Torrechiara<\/strong>, which has been the setting for many films, including\u00a0\u201cAddio fratello crudele\u201d\u00a0by\u00a0 Giuseppe Patroni Griffi,\u00a0\u00a0\u201cI Condottieri \u2013 Giovanni delle Bande Nere\u201d\u00a0by Luis Trenker,\u00a0\u00a0\u201cDonne e Soldati\u201d\u00a0by\u00a0Antonio Marchi and Luigi Malerba\u00a0and, in more recent times,\u00a0\u201cLadyhawke\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0by\u00a0Richard Donner. <\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

In the dairies of the film on Parmigiano Reggiano<\/h3>\n

Emilia \u00e8 cinema also in gastronomy. The king of cheeses, Parmigiano Reggiano, has become the inspiration for a film, recently aired on Rai 1 and soon to be online on the website of the Consortium headed by Nicola Bertinelli. It is called \u201cGli Amigos\u201d<\/strong> and was directed by Paolo Genovese<\/strong>. Among the protagonists are the actor Stefano Fresi<\/strong> and the Chef Massimo Bottura, struggling with a cooking school and a challenge based on Parmigiano Reggiano, which becomes a journey to discover the origins and secrets of the famous cheese. To relive the atmosphere, it’s a good idea to experience<\/strong> the cheese in person, visiting some of the dairies where this dairy delicacy is created, not to mention tasty samples.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

In cinematic Piacenza<\/h3>\n

\u00c8 it’s time to immerse yourself in the cinematography of Piacenza’s historical center, set of films such as \u201cBelle al Bar\u201d<\/strong> by and with Alessandro Benvenuti\u00a0and\u00a0Eva Robin’s,\u00a0produced by Piacenza’s Giorgio Leopardi\u00a0in 1994. A tour in which to recognize emblematic places of the city, such as the\u00a0Duomo\u00a0and the\u00a0station of Piacenza, the clubs and the landscapes along the Po River. Marco Bellocchio, director originally from Bobbio (PC) and winner of the Palma d\u2019Oro d\u2019Onore at the Cannes Film Festival 2021<\/strong>, has set some scenes of his film \u201cAddio del passato\u201d<\/strong> in the sumptuous Salone delle feste of\u00a0Palazzo Anguissola della Rocca Cimafava\u00a0in Piacenza, not forgetting the frescoes celebrating the glory of Alexander the Great. A film presented at the Venice Film Festival in 2002, co-produced by the Municipal Theatre. The Palace is a must-see. Here was also shot the film\u00a0\u201c<\/em>Avalanche Express\u201d\u00a0(1978) starring\u00a0Lee Marvin and Linda Evans.<\/strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Bobbio, cult village of the cinema and of Bellocchio<\/h3>\n

After Piacenza, a stop in Bobbio<\/a><\/strong> is a must. Bobbio is a cult cinema location and one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, which welcomes visitors with its cinematic Devil’s Bridge. The village is the annual home of the Bobbio Film Festival<\/strong>, directed by Marco Bellocchio, and of Making Cinema<\/strong>, a highly specialized course in film directing<\/strong>. The famous director shot his first film here in 1965, his film debut<\/strong> \u201cI Pugni in Tasca\u201d,<\/strong> with which he won the\u00a0Nastro d\u2019Argento. Set almost entirely in the country where the director’s family spent their summer vacations, the film takes place mainly in the country house of his mother, immersed in the Val Trebbia, while for some exteriors were chosen the curves of the highway 45 that follows the course of the river Trebbia and reveals unforgettable natural landscapes. The same is true of the Ponte Gobbo bridge, which was a carriageable bridge at the time, and the Castelletto cliff, the location of the dramatic climax of the film, which also moves inside the bell tower of Bobbio Cathedral. Between 1979 and 1980, Bellocchio paid homage to his land and his childhood memories in “Vacanze in Val Trebbia”<\/strong>, an autobiographical documentary film, shot in and around Bobbio. And then in 2010 in \u201cSorelle mai\u201d,<\/strong> in which we recognize the banks of the river Trebbia, which host the adventures of the actors Giorgio Bellocchio, Alba Rohrwacher and Donatella Finocchiaro.<\/p>\n

Castell\u2019Arquato, in the atmospheres of Ladyhawke<\/h3>\n

While some scenes of \u201cLadyhawke” were shot in the Castle of Torrechiara, there are others that feature the beautiful village of Castell\u2019Arquato (PC)<\/a>\u00a0with its Rocca Viscontea, the Collegiate Church, and the surrounding countryside of Bacedasco<\/strong>. The protagonists Matthew Broderick, Rutger Hauer and Michelle Pfeiffer bring to life here the love story of the beautiful Isabeau and the noble Navarre condemned to be always together, but eternally divided by the curse that the evil bishop has launched against them.
\nAt this point, the tour can continue to Cortemaggiore (PC)<\/strong>,\u00a0where<\/strong>Francesco Rosi\u00a0has filmed, with relevance to the reality of the facts, some scenes from The Mattei Case<\/strong>. While the Diga di Mignano in Val D\u2019Arda<\/strong> has offered the theater for the\u2019epic finale of\u00a0\u201cI lupi attaccano in branco\u201d, with Sylva Koscina and a mustachioed Rock Hudson. Finally, in 2012, in the Piacenza area was filmed “La finestra di Alice\u201d,<\/strong> directed by\u00a0Carlo Sarti\u00a0with Sergio Muniz, Debora Caprioglio and Fabrizio Bucci.<\/p>\n
