Gogol<\/em> perfectly describes the sentiment that Calabria<\/em> and its landscapes<\/em> is unleashed in the visitors\u2019 eyes. That\u2019s what happened to the well-known German director Wim Wenders <\/em>who was completely lost in the beauty of the Calabrian landscapes, he called them \u201cthe landscapes of contemplation<\/em>\u201d.\u00a0Actually Calabria<\/em> with its thousand-year-old contrasts is for sure an extraordinary<\/em> \u201cnarration\u201d of art, nature, people, villages and traditions. <\/em>An exclusive invitation to contemplation: Calabria is a state of mind.<\/em><\/p>\n

In Calabria the untouched landscapes<\/em> and the thousand-year-old-villages<\/em> are always ready to become the exclusive set<\/em> and location<\/em> for the movie industry<\/em> which has always supported the regional tourism promotion in an area <\/em>where the landscapes, the villages<\/em> and cities<\/em> are deeply charming, they are the landscapes of contemplation. They are immersed in the green of woods<\/em>, in the beauty, surrounded by the ruins and the mysteries, the coast is spread with towers and traps, the plains are spotted with cedars, olive trees, citrus<\/em> and bergamots and the hinterland is featured by many churches, convents, abbeys, olive mills and torrents<\/em>. They all emerge in a powerful way shouting their presence to the world. The village of Serra San Bruno, Vibo Valentia, the Sila\u2019s landscapes and the villages have been the absolute protagonist in front of the camera since the 1930s, the emerald landscape and the mystical Certosa in the backgroud.<\/em> But the harsh beauty of the Calabrian landscape<\/em> with its lakes<\/em> and forests<\/em>, is also the background of important movies like Il lupo della Sila<\/em> and Il Patto col Diavolo<\/em> in which, the ancient agricultural mountain landscapes are perfectly portrayed: from Sila<\/em> to Aspromonte<\/em>\u00a0 Calabria has been confirmed as <\/em>\u00a0the land of the landscapes of the soul<\/em>. Even famous directors like<\/em> Monicelli<\/em> and Pasolini <\/em>chose the landscapes of Calabria as a set for their movies. \u201cThe Incredible Army of Brancaleone\u201d<\/em> and The Gospel according to St. Matthew<\/em> were respectively shot in Le Castella<\/em> and Cutro<\/em> (KR<\/em>). However the solemnity of the latter was described by Pasolini<\/em> himself as a place \u201c\u2026<\/em><\/strong>where the hills seem dunes imagined by Kafka and the sunset the sail of a blood red rose\u201d<\/strong><\/em>. Other more recent audio-visual productions like the movie Arb<\/em>\u00ebria shot around the Villages <\/em>of the arb\u00ebresche (the Albanian people of Italy) <\/em>territory of Oriolo, Mormanno, Spezzano Albanese, San Giorgio Albanese <\/em>and San Demetrio Corone (CS) <\/strong>as well as The Poor Christ by<\/em> Capossela <\/em>set in the famous v<\/em><\/strong>illage <\/em>of Riace (RC) have contributed to the further rising of Calabria to the role of existential landscape following the fil rouge of a unique landscape contemplation.<\/em><\/p>\n
