The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.e-borghi.com\/en\/st_location\/italy\/amalfi-coast\/\"><strong>Amalfi Coast<\/strong><\/a> is always amazing. When you reach such a great beauty, you always remain speechless, as the wonder always prevails on words.<\/p>\n<p>From this point of the coast, the traffic congested <strong>Naples<\/strong> and the crowded towns along the gulf, covered by the <strong>Vesuvio<\/strong> shadow, which accompanies us during the whole journey, seem to be far away. In the first part of the famous and sinuous Amalfi highway 163 called <strong><em>\u201cthe blue strip\u201d,<\/em><\/strong> from which you can admire the <strong>Annunziata Tower<\/strong>, the town of <strong>Nocera Inferiore<\/strong>, the town of <strong>Cava d\u00e8 Tirreni<\/strong>, the village of <strong>Vietri sul Mare<\/strong>, and many other pearls of rare beauty of this extraordinary littoral zone.<\/p>\n<p>The first stop of the itinerary is the picturesque seaside village of <strong>Cetara<\/strong>, underneath the Falerio Mountain, which is settled on a narrow valley overlooking the sea among citrus groves and vineyards.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-313109\" src=\"https:\/\/www.e-borghi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Uno-sguardo-a-Cetara.jpg\" alt=\"A look at Cetara\" width=\"1600\" height=\"749\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.e-borghi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Uno-sguardo-a-Cetara.jpg 1600w, https:\/\/www.e-borghi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Uno-sguardo-a-Cetara-768x360.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.e-borghi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Uno-sguardo-a-Cetara-420x197.jpg 420w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1600px) 100vw, 1600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In the past, the Saracen fortress was dominated by the powerful <strong>Amalfi<\/strong>, a town situated in the proximity. The crystal-clear sea has always been present in the history and in the traditions of the territory: every spring, for example, the mariners raised anchor to go to Morocco and Algeria, in order to fish anchovies, an important ingredient in many local recipes.<\/p>\n<p>Once arrived, we are greeted by the <strong>Vicereale Tower<\/strong>, a building used as defence against pirates and Turks invasions, built during the Angevin period and then furtherly fortified during the aragonese era. Walking around the streets, you can enjoy the maritime charm hidden between the beach, sheltered in the shadow of the tower, and other artistic treasures, like the Romanic <strong>church of San Pietro Apostolo<\/strong>, which has however a Baroque interior, the cupola made of majolica and the double-arched window of the bell tower of the twelfth Century, <strong>the church and the convent\u00a0 of St. Francis, <\/strong>built in the sixteenth Century, and the cupola frescoed by the painter Marco Benincasa.<\/p>\n<p>A dish of spaghetti dressed with the <strong><em>\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.e-borghi.com\/en\/traditional-cooking\/recipe-spaghetti-with-anchovy-sauce-a-typical-dish-of-the-amalfi-coast\/\">colatura d\u2019alici<\/a>\u201d<\/em><\/strong><em>, <\/em>the sauce produced from the fermentation of the anchovies, previously marinated, together with fried fish, and a glass of <strong><em>Capri bianco DOP wine,<\/em><\/strong> is the perfect lunch before leaving for the second destination of the journey along the coast: <strong>Maiori<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-316943 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.e-borghi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/10_01_20-12_36_40-H848832f511ffa69c8cab3df2c922980.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"769\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.e-borghi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/10_01_20-12_36_40-H848832f511ffa69c8cab3df2c922980.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.e-borghi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/10_01_20-12_36_40-H848832f511ffa69c8cab3df2c922980-768x577.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.e-borghi.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/10_01_20-12_36_40-H848832f511ffa69c8cab3df2c922980-420x315.jpg 420w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In the Middle Ages the town represented the main harbour of the Amalfi republic ant it is reach in aristocratic palaces and convents. Maiori is a picturesque seaside centre and it is very famous for the lemon plantations. It is surrounded by <strong>the cliff of San Nicola de Thoro Plano<\/strong> and it has one of the most extended beaches of the coast. Do not miss a walk along the <strong>sea promenade<\/strong>, before entering the village and reaching the complex of the <strong>church of Santa Maria a Mare<\/strong>, situated in the heart of the built-up area. The external part of the church, built in the seventeenth Century, together with the bell tower, built in the fourteenth century, and the hemispheric cupola cover with the majolica coming from the town of <strong>Vietri<\/strong>, are reunited with the interiors, made of three aisles, the sacristy built in 1866, and the crypt, that shields the remains of <strong>San Clemente<\/strong>.
