From 6.30 pm to 10.30 pm, the little square overlooking the sea is transformed into an elegant tasting trail where enthusiasts and curious visitors alike can meet the producers in person, learn about the histories of their wineries and discover the many interpretations of Malvasia, one of the three most representative indigenous grape varieties of the area surrounding Trieste.

The event will feature over 40 winegrowers from the Karst, the Breg, Istria and other regions renowned for the production of this historic white wine. Each producer will present their own Malvasia, describing its characteristics, winemaking methods and connection to the local area. The event will thus offer a unique opportunity to compare the scents, aromas and nuances of a grape variety which, whilst retaining a strong shared identity, manages to express itself in different ways depending on the place of production and the winemaker’s approach.

The special guest at the 2026 edition will be Malvasia delle Lipari, hailing from Sicily and a symbol of the Aeolian Islands, which will further enrich the tasting experience by offering visitors the chance to compare two great interpretations of the same grape variety, produced in vastly different regions but united by an extraordinary winemaking tradition.

Accompanying the wines will be some of the finest local producers of artisan bread, made with sourdough and sustainably sourced flours, which will form the basis for a selection of artisan cicchetti crafted with seasonal ingredients, local produce and Slow Food specialities. A pairing designed to enhance every glass and to convey, through flavour, the gastronomic identity of the border region between Friuli Venezia Giulia and Istria.

Malvasia in Porto is not just a wine tasting event, but an opportunity for producers, artisans and visitors to come together in a relaxed atmosphere overlooking the sea. As you stroll amongst the stands, you’ll be able to chat directly with the winemakers, listen to stories about their estates and gain a deeper understanding of the wine culture of a region rich in history, traditions and diverse influences – all of which are reflected in its wines.

The admission ticket includes a tasting of all the Malvasia wines on offer, three tokens to sample artisanal cicchetti, and the event’s official wine glass, which each participant can take home as a souvenir of the evening. An unmissable event for lovers of wine and fine food, combining quality, hospitality and stunning scenery in one of the most charming locations in the Gulf of Trieste.

On 31 July 2026, ‘Malvasia in Porto’ returns to Muggia, featuring over 40 winemakers, Malvasia tastings, artisanal cicchetti, Slow Food products and local wines, all set against the backdrop of the sea.

[50873
165163
post-390664","eb_event","type-eb_event","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","village-conntection-muggia-muglae-it","event_category-festival-en
["GET
