On Sunday 21 June 2026, Serralunga d\u2019Alba Castle<\/strong><\/a> will be transformed into an authentic medieval village for the first edition of Serralunga Medievalis, a day entirely dedicated to exploring the history, traditions and daily life of the Middle Ages in the heart of the Langhe.<\/p>\n

Organised by the Barolo & Castles Foundation in collaboration with the Municipality of Serralunga d\u2019Alba, the Pro Loco, the Giostra delle Cento Torri and the Accademia Scherma Alba, the event will bring the village to life from 10:00 to 19:00 with a packed programme designed for families, history re-enactment enthusiasts and visitors keen to enjoy an immersive experience within the ancient walls of one of Piedmont\u2019s most fascinating castles.<\/p>\n

Guided tours of Serralunga d\u2019Alba Castle will be organised throughout the day, departing every thirty minutes. The tour will allow visitors to discover the history of the fortress and will conclude with a meeting with the apothecary, a key figure in medieval society and the guardian of knowledge relating to medicinal herbs, natural remedies and the preparation of perfumes and ointments.<\/p>\n

In the castle courtyard, a genuine medieval encampment will come to life, featuring soldiers and knights taking part in practical demonstrations organised by the Accademia Scherma Alba. Visitors will be able to see armour, equipment and fighting techniques up close, discovering the differences between warfare, duelling and tournaments through spectacular displays of historical fencing.<\/p>\n

One of the most fascinating moments will be dedicated to the Art of the Apothecary. An educational stand will illustrate the properties of medicinal herbs, the preparation of ancient remedies and the creation of pigments used in the Middle Ages for writing and decoration.<\/p>\n

Ample space will also be given to medieval games and interactive activities organised by the villages of the Giostra delle Cento Torri. Children and adults alike can try their hand at skill tests, traditional games and activities inspired by daily life of the period, whilst gaining a deeper understanding of the customs, traditions and differences between the various medieval social classes.<\/p>\n

The day will be accompanied by a culinary programme showcasing the region\u2019s finest produce. The food stalls and tastings organised by the participating villages and the Pro Loco of Serralunga d\u2019Alba, with the support of local producers, will offer visitors the chance to sample wines and specialities from the Langhe in a setting steeped in charm and history.<\/p>\n
