From 9 to 13 September 2026, Diamante<\/strong><\/a> will once again be awash with red for the 34th edition of the Peperoncino Festival<\/strong>, Italy\u2019s most famous event dedicated to chilli peppers and one of the best-known gastronomic and cultural events on the international stage. For five days, the beautiful town on the Riviera dei Cedri will become a meeting place for enthusiasts, curious visitors, chefs, producers and guests from all over the world.<\/p>\n

Launched in 1992 based on an idea by journalist Enzo Monaco, the festival has grown over the years to become a flagship event that brings together gastronomy, culture, entertainment and folk traditions. The chilli pepper, a symbol of Calabria and a key ingredient in Mediterranean cuisine, forms the central theme of a programme packed with events and initiatives involving the entire town centre.<\/p>\n

The streets, squares and seafront promenades of Diamante will host tastings, exhibitions, shows, cultural events and activities dedicated to exploring the infinite nuances of chilli. Visitors will be able to discover products from various Italian regions and numerous countries around the world, learning about the fascinating facts, properties and uses of a spice that has shaped the history of gastronomy.<\/p>\n

As always, one of the most eagerly awaited events will be the famous Italian Chilli-Eating Championship, a competition that puts the bravest palates to the test in a spectacular and entertaining challenge. Every year, this event attracts thousands of spectators and is one of the highlights of the entire festival.<\/p>\n

The programme for the 2026 Chilli Pepper Festival will also feature theatre performances, film screenings, concerts, dance performances and talks with guests from the worlds of culture, gastronomy and entertainment. A programme designed to engage audiences of all ages and transform Diamante into a vast open-air stage.<\/p>\n

Alongside the cultural and entertainment events, there will be a strong focus on Calabrian culinary excellence. Tastings, show cooking and culinary tours will allow visitors to discover the link between chilli peppers and the region\u2019s culinary traditions, showcasing local specialities and recipes.<\/p>\n

Today, the Peperoncino Festival is much more than just a food festival: it is an event that defines the region\u2019s identity, showcasing Calabria\u2019s culture, hospitality and creativity.
