Now in its seventh edition, the event will take place in the picturesque Arena Cinema at the Rocca di Montestaffoli, one of the most charming spots in the city of towers, offering two evenings of international cinema, culture and reflection.

The festival was created with the aim of portraying travel in all its forms: not merely as geographical movement, but also as a human, spiritual, inner and symbolic journey. Through the medium of the short film, the Francigena Film Festival explores stories of personal growth, memory, discovery, love, faith, quest and transformation, celebrating cinema as a tool capable of uniting different cultures and sensibilities.

The films selected for the 2026 edition come from numerous countries around the world, including India, the United States, Germany, Taiwan, South Korea, Russia, Romania, Palestine and Italy. Each film tells a different story of a journey, offering the audience an original perspective on the experiences that unite humanity beyond geographical and cultural boundaries.

On Friday 24 July, the spotlight will be on the short films shortlisted for the competition, which will be vying for the Best Short Film award and the various special mentions awarded by the jury. The screenings will offer a cinematic journey rich in emotion and imagery, taking viewers on a journey through different worlds, eras and stories.

On Saturday 25 July, the awards ceremony will take place, followed by a special event of great cultural significance: the screening of the 4K restored version of Franco Zeffirelli’s film *Fratello Sole Sorella Luna*, presented in the original English with Italian subtitles. The event takes on particular significance as part of the celebrations for the 800th anniversary of St Francis, not least because numerous scenes from the famous film were shot right here in San Gimignano.

Making the festival even more special is the official award, known as Il Sacco del Pellegrino. Crafted by the artisans of ColleVilca from crystal and gold dust, the award symbolises the wealth of experiences, emotions and knowledge that every filmmaker carries with them and shares through their cinema.

The Francigena Film Festival has become a leading event in the world of cinema dedicated to travel and pilgrimage, bringing together art, culture and spirituality in the heart of Tuscany. Two evenings with free admission invite the public to embark on a journey through the images, stories and emotions of the seventh art.

The Francigena Film Festival returns to San Gimignano on 24 and 25 July 2026: international short films, awards, films on the theme of travel, and a special screening of *Brother Sun, Sister Moon*.

[51031
165163,165171
post-384478","eb_event","type-eb_event","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","village-conntection-san-gimignano-it","event_category-festival-en","event_category-shows
["GET
