Borgo delle Oche is the ancient name of the area where the winery is located, in the medieval hamlet of Valvasone. Valvasone was known as: Lupi Terrae, Wolf Land. The owners of the winery, Luisa Menini and Nicola Pittini work closely together sharing their passion for their vineyards and high quality wine making.
The intimacy of this small family estate allows them to meticulously care for their vineyards using organic methods when possible. Their high quality wines are produced from native grapes. Many old grape variety types have been preserved and replanted such as the ancient Refosco dal Peduncolo Rosso and Friulano. Since 1997, they have grown Aromatic Traiminer in red clay soil to produce a white still wine and a sweet wine called “Alba”. They also produce other wines such as Merlot, Pinot Grigio, and a sparkling white wine called Terra e Cielo (Champenoise method).
They cultivate a special relationship with their vineyards. It is their belief that one needs to establish an equilibrium between the plant, the soil and the vinedresser to produce high quality wines. They patiently wait for proper maturation to harvest the grapes. This gives complexity and personality to the their memorable wines.
In 2014 was born also the Bed & Breakfast a few steps from the cellar and from the beautiful medieval castle situated in the historical center: Casamenini B&B, which organizes for guests tasting and visits to the cellar.
