St. Joseph’s Church at Castelpetroso

St. Joseph's Church at Castelpetroso

Although no precise records exist, it is believed that its origins date back to the 17th century. The structure of the church appears to have been smaller in its original form, since it è consisted of two distinct sections: a lower rectangular block, which incorporates the main area of the church, and a quadrangular block located at the rear. The interior of this sanctuary è adorned with a majestic statue of the patron saint, which gives it a unique spiritual charm.

The fascinating historical plot è enriched by the discovery of human bones in the immediate vicinity of the church. Together with the existence of two adjoining rooms with communal graves, it is believed that the church was once a burial ground. This find opens up a fascinating connection to the past, speaking of centuries of communities that relied on the Church of St. Joseph the Craftsman as their spiritual guide.

Adjacent to the church is a monument dedicated to St. Pio of Pietrelcina, further enriching the deep sense of sanctity and reverence that envelops the site. A visit to the Church of St. Joseph the Craftsman offers not only spiritual refreshment, but also a journey through time, revealing the layers of history buried in the heart of Castelpetroso.
