The civilization made its appearance in Follina already in prehistoric times (some findings dates back to 120,000 years ago), while from the Roman period are the remains of a path that someone has identified with the Via Claudia Augusta Altinate. Around the half of the XII century Cistercian monks settled in Follina, to whom the introduction of the woollen art in Val Mareno is attributed, in addition to the construction of the Abbey of Santa Maria whose cloister was completed in 1268 by monks builders Arnaldo and Andrea and the master builders Zardino and Armano.
Around 1680 Follina takes a leap of quality from the economy point of view due to the foundation of the manufacture by Francesco Fadda that was one of the first in Italy to grapple with the imitation of finer and lighter English and Dutch fabrics. On Fadda's leading experience the wool mills Tron-Stahl were inserted, around 1740.
A stroll along the track of Follina allows you to admire the beautiful buildings of the historical center born precisely within the setting of this industrial activity: Palazzo Barberis Rusca, Palazzo Bernardi, Palazzo Tandura and the former wool mill Andretta of the nineteenth century are notable example of industrial archeology. Lying at the feet of the Pre-Alps in the Belluno area, its historical setting and landscape make it one of the most beloved and popular historical centers of the March of Treviso.
