Share
Altidona is part of the Union of Municipalities of Valdaso. It dominates the Aso valley from a hill and has a coastline in the hamlet of Marina di Altidona, whose beach is made of sand and gravel. Among pine trees and millennial palm trees rise beautiful villas and accommodation facilities. Cyclists can use the paths that run along the coast for 3 km or along the Aso river.

About the village

The territory of Altidona includes the small medieval village, perched on a hill, and the populous village called Marina, a tourist and seaside resort. The origin of the name is uncertain and probably derives from the settlement named Altino and founded by the Pelasgi before the Roman era, although the village seems to have been founded by the people of the Piceno, during the Punic Wars, as evidenced by remains of Roman ruins , above all villae, overlooking the sea, like that of Barbula, a well-known producer of Palmense wine. In the twelfth century the scattered settlements are abandoned and the inhabitants give life to a new castle around the parish church of Santa Maria and San Ciriaco, transferred to the hill of the present town. Its history was then closely linked to that of Fermo.

Even today it is possible to admire the walls enclosing the medieval settlement.
The church of Santa Maria and San Ciriaco are certainly worth a visit, where a table is kept, attributed to Vincenzo Pagani, depicting a Madonna and Child, two saints and a donor.

In Altidona there is the Fermo Provincial photographic library, where it is possible to consult photographic archives that bear witness to the history of the Fermano territory.
