About the village

The village of Serralunga d'Alba (Seralonga d'Alba in Piedmontese) is located in the Langhe in Piedmont. Its Castle is today considered one of the best preserved examples of noble castle fourteenth-century of Piedmont. Located at the top of the hill of Serralunga, a domain of the characteristic village and its famous vineyards, in one of the most interesting tourist districts and greater development of the region, the castle is indelible symbol of this landscape. At the time at which the descendants of Bonifacio del Vasto, Bonifacio Minor and brass del Carretto, in the XII century, were the lords of the territory, a tower overhead and defended the village of Serralunga.

From the beginning of the XIII century are attested also an area of relevance signorile, defense stably, and a household to rural character, that under the domination of the Falletti family thanks to its military merit came into possession of the part of the feud of Serralunga of the Marquis of Saluzzo and did reduce the defensive tower to leave room for the castle. The castle played in the territory more than a military role a function of control activities of the local communities, as demonstrated by its very structure extremely slender and stretched to underline in this way the prestige of the Falletti family. The residence since 1300 consisted of various parties, including in particular the Palacium, compact block elongate and constituted by the vast halls superimposed, a cylindrical tower, which presents the characters that are most innovative aspects of fortified architecture in the Fourteenth Century, a square tower and a chapel and a small room with a barrel vault and frescoes dating from the second half of the XV century. The manor was never transformed into a holiday residence and then maintained unchanged for centuries its structure of medieval fortress.

The castle with its beautiful shape extending upwards, dominates the village of Serralunga which widens his feet, with a cobweb of streets arranged radially. The place is very old and has nearly a thousand years of life, when at the beginning of the second millennium on this hill was built the square tower and to the defense and a symbol of possession.

The town is surrounded by the famous vineyards to nebbiolo for Barolo, while in its cellars it refines the "king of wines" for the joy of the great connoisseurs throughout the world.
