About the village

Located south of Bologna and only 6 km from Imola, the quaint medieval village of Dozza offers a unique experience for lovers of art, history and gastronomy. Thanks to its panoramic hilltop location overlooking the Sellustra River valley, Dozza is the perfect destination for a visit to the Emilia Romagna region.

Art under the open sky: urban landscape and contemporary works of art

The streets, houses, and squares of Dozza are embellished with numerous works of art that transform the village into a fascinating open-air museum. Contemporary art blends with the urban landscape, creating a unique and fascinating atmosphere. The Rocca Sforzesca houses frescoes and sketches of the mural works exhibited in the Painted Wall Study and Documentation Center.

The historic center preserves its original medieval building fabric intact, with the mighty Rocca Sforzesca dominating the landscape. Over the centuries, the Rocca was transformed from a military building to a noble palace and later passed to the Malvezzi-Campeggi family, who resided there until 1960. Don't miss the apartments on the main floor, the prisons, torture chambers, and tower walkways.

Among the hidden treasures of the historic center, there are numerous attractions in Dozza, including the Provost Church of S. Maria Assunta in Piscina, the Rivellino and the Rocchetta of 14th-century origins.

The Enoteca Regionale dell'Emilia-Romagna and the Wine Trail

An unmissable experience is a visit to the Enoteca Regionale dell'Emilia Romagna, located in the basement of the Rocca Sforzesca. This place offers a wide selection of more than 800 local wine labels, food pairings and tastings led by professional sommeliers. The Enoteca is also the first stop on Dozza's Wine Trail, a 6-kilometer walking route that connects some of the best local wineries.

Dozza's culinary tradition

Dozza offers a rich culinary tradition based on handmade pasta, grilled meats, and piadina. Local wines include Sangiovese DOC and Albana DOCG. The village is crossed by the Strada dei Vini e Sapori Colli d'Imola, which offers a unique taste experience.
