About the village

The medieval village of Pereta, whose name apparently derives from the cultivation of pears in the surrounding areas, is located halfway between Magliano in Toscana and Scansano, in the center of the production area of Morellino D.O.C.G.

Pereta, following some findings from the Etruscan-Roman period, has ancient origins and it is accessible through a crenellated gate, from the late medieval period.Built by the Aldobrandeschi between the 10th and 11th centuries, Pereta was an important military center which guarded a forced road that connected the coast with the mountain, but in 1238 the village passed under the domination of Siena, of which today it remains some testimonies like the Clock Tower, built at the end of the 1300s, which with its 29 meters high, stands out imposing on all the buildings of the small village.

The Church of San Giovanni Battista and the Pieve di Santa Maria Assunta are definitely worth a visit.
