Located along the ancient Cassia Vetus, better known today as Via Setteponti, Loro Ciuffenna, it was inhabited in ancient times by the Etruscans.
Originally it was called "Loro", due to the presence of the laurel plants, subsequently "Ciuffena" was added, in reference to the river that divides the village into two parts.
As part of The Most Beautiful Villages in Italy, Loro Ciuffenna has the oldest working water mill in Tuscany, used to grind chestnuts into sweet flour. The Church of Santa Maria Assunta, located in a small and quiet square, the Basilica of Our Lady of Humility and the Venturino Venturi Museum, where works of contemporary artists are collected, are worth visiting.
