The village of Policoro rises in the plain of the Metaponto, a short distance from the ruins of the ancient city of Eraclea.

Policoro boasts a particularly interesting village that deserves to be visited.
The baronial castle, also known as Palazzo Belingieri, built around the year one thousand, dominates the town from above. In 1893 the castle passed to Baron Berlingieri of Crotone, from which it derives its name.

Interesting is the characteristic Borgo Casilini, symbol of the agrarian reform and the rebirth of Policoro, because it was built precisely in the 1950s. Here lived the employees of the feudal company of Baron Berlingieri of Crotone.

The main squares include Piazza Eraclea and Segni.

Around the pretty Murati Gardens, the main summer events are organized, representing the other face of Policoro, beyond the sea and archeology.

Also worth a visit is the National Archaeological Museum of Siritide, which allows visitors to immerse themselves in the fascinating dimension of Magna Grecia through testimonies and finds of inestimable value.

Although a few steps from the sea, the city of Policoro has mostly an agricultural culture that began in the sixties with the sugar factory and continued over time supported mainly by the cultivation of kiwis and strawberries.
Only in recent years there has been an increase in tourism thanks to the recent construction of tourist works.

Among the most traditional and renowned activities there are the artisan ones, linked to the peasant and pastoral culture. These activities, far from disappearing, are instead flourishing again, and are distinguished by the art of ceramics, porcelain and terracotta.
