Isola dei Pescatori

What to see in Stresa , Verbano-Cusio-Ossola, Piedmont

The Isola dei Pescatori, also called Superiore, is the smallest of the four, the most picturesque and the only one to be inhabited. This is separated from the Isola Bella by a small island that is the size of a rock.

This small village is made up of multi-storey dwellings, with long balconies used for drying fish, narrow alleys and the Church of San Vittore that emerges from the red-colored roofs.

In summer the island enjoys a large turnout of visitors who walk in the alleys and buy local handicrafts in the small and characteristic market. Famous in Ferragosto is the procession of the statue of the patron saint of the archipelago on a boat around the islands, surrounded by numerous boats of tourists and inhabitants of the area.

There are no engines on the island, the only way to discover it is on foot. There are two main roads, one leading to the village and the other along the island.
