St Stephen's Church

What to see in Fornace, Trento, Trentino-South Tyrol

It is one of the oldest sacred buildings in the area. It is traditionally indicated as the mother church of the entire Pineta area, followed by San Mauro.
Dating back to the 6th-7th centuries, it was originally dedicated to San Cipriano. In 1502, it was enlarged and dedicated to St Stephen.
Archaeological excavations in the late 1980s and early 1990s brought to light an ancient tomb. Some interior frescoes and a mosaic fragment from the 11th century are valuable.
