Church of San Rocco

What to see in Agliè, Torino, Piedmont

The dedication to San Rocco is justified by the fact that the saint, three centuries earlier, had dedicated his short life to the care of the plague victims by contracting the disease. It was demolished in 1931 and, of the old building, rebuilt nearby, only the central icon was kept, the wooden statue of the Saint and the clock of the bell tower.

The current building imitates the neo-romantic style with exposed truss ceiling. Inside, on the sides of the central icon depicting the Madonna, San Giovanni Battista, San Rocco and San Sebastiano, we find two frescos signed by L. Perrone representing St. Joseph on the left and San Gaetano on the right. The walls have been recently repainted by the painter Gilardi who, with original perspectives, has given a new face to this church.
