Collegiate Prepositurale of San Martino

What to see in Tirano, Sondrio, Lombardy

The origin of the church of San Martino is uncertain as we are in possession of few historical evidence relating to its original medieval structure, are visible a portal on the north side and two side chapels - now converted into sacristies - in addition to the bell tower that is clear Romanesque plant. Three naves with ceilings decorated with frescoes make up the interior, which houses an organ of great relief, a well-crafted Serassi from 1848, created with the collaboration of the architect Ulisse Salis and the artisan Francesco Bonacossa from Tirano. The organ was subjected to a radical intervention of extraordinary maintenance in 2016, which fully recovered its functionality, aesthetics and structural solidity.
