Nobiallo and the Antica Strada Regina
The village Nobiallo, 1 km north of Menaggio is crossed through by the ancient Roman road called the Antica Strada Regina that climbs over Sasso Rancio and leads to Rezzonico. Today on the western bank of the lake runs the state road 340, the so called Strada Regina. The name of this road reminds us of the ancient communication road that connected Milano to Como, then ran along the western side of the lake to Chiavenna and from there to the Alpine passes in order to reach the Northern part of Europe. The tradition tributes the construction of this road to the Longobard Queen Teodolinda, but actually the Via Regina is of Roman origins.
