Consuls' palace

What to see in Bevagna, Perugia, Umbria

the Consuls' palace of Bevagna was erected in 1270 in the golden period of the town, when after the 1249 citizens obtained by Pope Innocent IV permission to freely elect its own podestà. It presents itself as a mass quadrangular with a facade open by two orders of gothic mullioned windows resting on a large loggia covered by cross vaults. Alongside opens the beautiful external staircase that leads to the upper floor.

In 1886 the interior was completely redone to welcome a theater. The Piccolo Teatro dedicated to fellow citizen Francesco Torti has three tiers of boxes and gallery and was decorated by Domenico Bruschi and Mariano Piervittori. Welcomes 140 places.
