The Sacred Art Museum

What to see in Longiano, Forli Cesena, Emilia-Romagna

The Sacred Art Museum opened by Longiano Town Council and the Dioceses of Cesena and Sarsina was inaugurated in 1989. It is housed inside the baroque Oratory of S. Giuseppe Nuovo, which remains consecrated to this day. The Museum finds important works of art alongside many priceless, sacred objects such as furnishings, regalia, relics and offerings. Of particular note are the remains of the body of St. Valerio the Martyr, a 15th century icon of the Madonna delle Lacrime (Madonna of Tears), and a fine group of coloured terracotta sculptures, “Il Compianto sul Cristo” (Lament over Christ) by Cesena architect and sculptor Ilario Fioravanti (1922-2012). Open on Saturday, Sunday and public holidays, from 2.30 pm to 6.30 pm. Open at other times by prior booking
