Share

The Church and Convent of St. Francis is a vast complex that belonged to the Friars Minor Conventual, who settled in the town in 1267. The church is in Baroque style, both in the majolica facade and in the interior; the wooden ceiling shows a polychromy in blue and gold, resembling a starry sky. Immediately to the left of the counterfaçade, one can admire the sarcophagus of Count Ludovico Artus from 1370 surmounted by a Gothic arch, while at the bottom of the apse one can see the large canvas with St. Francis Receiving the Stigmata; above is the cycle of frescoes, with episodes from biblical history, by Giaquinto from 1703, by whom is also the panel painting of the Annunciation (1702).
