Sgarbi proposes to bring the Dancing Satyr to Vinitaly 2018

Sgarbi propone di portare il Satiro Danzante a Vinitaly 2018

It is not new the idea of Vittorio Sgarbi, Councilor for Cultural Heritage of the Sicilia Region, of wanting to bring the Dancing Satyr to the next Vinitaly in the pavilion that will host the Sicilian cellars. Already a few years ago the councilor expressed this desire that today could be realized, as announced during an interview with the online newspaper CronachediGusto.

According to Sgarbi, the Dancing Satyr “…is just one of the symbols of the myth that recalls wine, an important find that reminds us how much wine drinking is ancient for Western civilization“.

The statue, which is one of the main archaeological finds in Italy in recent decades, was found in the Sicilia channel and was realized by Greek sculptors between the fourth and second centuries BC.

Thinking of the fragility of the find, the commissioner does not think it’s a problem. In fact, the Satyrs, who is hosted at the museum in Mazara del Vallo dedicated to him, in 2005 embarked on a trip to Japan where he was exhibited for several months.

Vinitaly, the most important event dedicated to the world of wine, will take place in Verona from Sunday 15th to Wednesday 18th April 2018.
