It is in the heart of what is called the Food Valley that Correggio is spreading. Reference center of the Union of Municipalities of the Plains of Reggio Emilia, it is a center with medieval origins linked to the Lombard domination.

Elevated to the rank of city in 1559 by the emperor Ferdinand I of Habsburg, to which he also conferred the privilege to coin money, in 1616 Correggio became principality, passing a few decades later to the Duchy of Modena and Reggio. The well-preserved historic center has the main artery in Corso Mazzini, flanked on both sides by the Verona marble paved porticoes, with the old cobblestone paved with double granite lanes to facilitate the transit of the wagons.

Correggio Palazzo dei Prinicipi

Among the main monuments there is Palazzo Principi, built by Francesca di Brandeburgo on a design by Biagio Rossetti, from the rooms with coffered ceilings and lacunars where are housed the Civic Library, the Corrigesi archives and the "Il Correggio" Civic Museum, located in the rooms on the main floor, which houses works and materials of significant artistic interest from various churches, public properties and private collections of the Da Correggio, an important feudal family.

Other treasures of the historic center are the Teatro dedicated to the musician correggese Beato Asoli, the sixteenth-century Basilica of San Quirino which, inside, houses a precious fifteenth-century ivory reliquary, the fifteenth-century church of San Francesco, from the outside in terracotta with friezes and from inside it has three naves with pointed arches with remains of late fifteenth-century frescoes, and the seventeenth-century church of Santa Chiara, on models that recall Borromini.

Luciano Ligabue, nephew of Marcello, hero of the Resistance, is one of the most successful Italian singer-songwriters of this land rich in history and good food.

Ligabue a Correggio

Graduated in accounting, he carries out the most disparate jobs, from the agricultural laborer to the metalworker, from the accountant to the trader, from the promoter to the radio host. In 1978 he wrote "Cento lampioni", his first single, and in 1986 he founded, with some friends, "Orazero", an amateur music group.

His first "official" track is "Anime in plexiglass / Bar Mario", dating back to 1988, recorded with "Orazero". Discovered by Pierangelo Bertoli, he received the Disco Verde at Festivalbar 1990, an award for the best emerging singer of the kermesse, with the piece destined to make history "Balliamo sul mondo".

The turning point in Luciano Ligabue's career is in 1995, the year of the publication of "Buon compleanno Elvis", an album that will mark its definitive consecration, full of sounds close to an American-style rock'n'roll, with pieces destined to become classics of his repertoire, such as "Vivo, morto or X", "Hai un momento, Dio?" and "Certe notti". The album, a veritable compositional vertex of the Emilian artist, will sell over one million two hundred thousand copies, receiving the European Platinum Record and three prizes at the then "Italian PIM Music Award".

The performance, in 1996, at Pavarotti & Friends with the tenor, at the Montreux Jazz Festival with the former Rolling Stones Mick Taylor, the publication in 1997 of "Su e giù dal palco" and in 1998 the publication of the soundtrack of the his first directorial film "Radiofreccia", in which he collaborates with stars such as, among others, David Bowie, Iggi Pop, Lou Reed, give the Emilian author success and popularity that is consolidated over the years with illustrious collaborations, new albums, concerts in overflowing stadiums and extraordinary participation in various events and festivals.

There are not only the music and film productions in Ligabue's career, but also the social and political commitment, as well as literary that sees him as the author of novels and collections of stories.

Many awards and awards in forty years of career, from the World Music Awards as best Italian singer in 1990 to the many Telegatti, to the many victories at Festivalbar and the Wind Music Award. Then the "David di Donatello" as best debut director for "Radiofreccia", which also gives him the joy of a "Nastro d'argento" for the direction, a "Golden Globe", two "Ciak d'oro" and a "Flaiano Award" for directing.
