Turrita fortress and, at the same time, elegant residence. A manor of medieval imprint but also an elegant home with a rococo touch: it is difficult to define Aymavilles castle which, with its characteristic appearance, dominates the moraine ridge at the mouth of the Cogne valley.
The building is the result of the many alterations it has undergone over the centuries, which gave it an original architectural look, unique in the panorama of the Valdostan castles. Fruit of the taste of personalities and different eras, it is surrounded by a park and is immersed in a vast agricultural domain characterized by vines.
From 4 to 26 August 2018 the Valle d'Aosta Autonomous Region opens a preview of the gates of the castle of Aymavilles with an event site that shows the results of recent conservation interventions addressed both to the building and to the interior decorative equipment.
The restoration work of the building began in 2013, contemplating the execution of construction, structural and plant engineering operations aimed at the safe use of the monument, as well as all the work necessary for the realization of the future museum layout.
A unique opportunity to discover this jewel of the Valle d'Aosta cultural heritage before its definitive reopening.
The free tours are scheduled every day, from 4 to 26 August, from 14 to 19 every half hour (last admission at 18.30). For information: www.regione.vda.it, www.comune.aymavilles.ao.it, tel. +39 340 0634660.
