In ancient times families on this feast day spent the entire morning "Abbasc a Madonla nov" (Down the valley of Our Lady of the New). Being the day after Easter, it marked the end of the festive time and the beginning of ordinary activities before the summer harvest. Currently, in the morning there is a long procession that starts from the Church of the Madonna della Nuova (located in the outskirts along the road leading to Matera) and crosses the streets and the new districts of the Parish, ending late in the morning in the Church of Santa Lucia. In the evening, after the solemn religious celebrations in the Parish, with the traditional fireworks and the great local band concert, the statue of the angel announcing the resurrection of Christ to the Madonna, is taken back to its small church in the suburbs.
