Feast of the Stella Maris

The feast is dedicated to a depiction of the Madonna as protectress of sailors - the Star of the sea - a mosaic found in the church of San Nicolò of Capodimonte, and which dates back to 400. In the morning the cannon shot announces the departure of Dragun, which leads the priest at the altar of Stella Maris located on Punta Chiappa; the Dragun is followed by the boats of the spectators impavesate for the occasion. In the evening when it gets dark, the Dragun and small rowing boats (kayak and canoe) with a flashlight tied to the stern follow the boat in the row in front of the beach, sometimes by speedraces while the people from the beach puts at sea hundreds of wax candles that illuminate the stretch of water in front of.
