Every year, on the 9th of May, in a solemn and very long procession, the simulacrum is carried on the shoulders of a sedan-chair made of pure gold and taken back to Merino, to the sanctuary situated seven kilometres from the town, across sheep tracks and beaches, in memory of the discovery that took place there.
