Costumed historical reenactment celebrated every year on August 19 in the beautiful village of Arquata del Tronto, established to commemorate the stay, at the fortress, of Joan of Anjou during the first half of the 15th century.
For the town, the event represents the synthesis of the expression of history and traditions related to the fortification that towers over the village. The unfolding of the event consists of two moments. The first consists of the ceremony known as "the descent of the queen," which is the costume parade of many figures wearing 15th-century-inspired costumes.
The historical procession begins to compose itself from the Rocca and, walking through the narrow streets of the village, reaches Umberto I Square. The order of the parade is opened by the musicians who with their clarions and drums announce the arrival of the sovereign. After these is the queen, followed by the pageboys supporting the long train of her dress, accompanied by her ladies-in-waiting.
They are joined by the notables, bridesmaids, armigers, archers, shepherds and flag-wavers who will perform by showing skill in the choreography created to deftly handle their banners. The town square is the venue for the second moment of the reenactment. Here, after the arrival of the procession, an open-air dinner presided over by the castellan is held.
The banquet features a menu of medieval dishes. All guests are entertained by dancers, musicians and performers offering street games.
