May Day represents for Santa Vittoria di Gualtieri a legacy that has been handed down even since the late 19th century. The occasion, in Victorian lands, is celebrated to the sound of music and good food. Tradition has it, in fact, that the Santa Vittoria band departs in the morning from Palazzo Greppi and stops in each neighborhood of the hamlet, for a total of about twenty stops. Here, the players sing typical songs and, most importantly, many families provide hearty refreshments at the end of which the band leaves again and repeats the ritual until the afternoon, when it then returns to the Palazzo. This is a tradition that has distant roots: in fact, as early as the late nineteenth century, the occasion was celebrated and began to take place in its current "itinerant" form in the years when the historic cooperative was born in Santa Vittoria.
