The event takes place every year on the last Sunday of August for the celebration of San Secondo, a Roman legionary martyred and re-evoking, between history and popular legend, the expulsion of the Saracens from the Vermenagna valley. It is not clear whether the Abaiya of Limone Piemonte has its roots in the tradition of the bahio, in any case in its current configuration it still presents itself as an annual feast of the congregation of muleteers and carters with procession of the patron saint. The festival, which is entrusted to a local association also because the profession of the cartuné, or the carters, has now disappeared, includes the parade through the streets of the town of the statue of the saint followed by party-harnessed horses and decorated carriages. The folk group organizes the procession which, from the church of San Secondo reaches Piazza del Municipio. After the mass, we continue with a religious procession in which the Music Band and the folkloristic group with buggies and horses also participate. The party continues in the afternoon, with popular songs and costumed dances in the streets of the town, to reach the most awaited moment: the investiture of the Abbàs, once the rulers of the place. The first celebration was attested in 1529 in memory of the numerous mule track companies that at the time of the County of Tenda transported goods through the homonymous hill.
